The Nabutan-Ranau Walk
(three days/two nights. Minimum 2 people)

This tour, departing daily from Kota Kinabalu, provides a unique opportunity to walk the last two sections of the Death March Track, between Nabutan and the Ranau Plain, spread over two days. Please note that the duration of each day's walk is subject to weather and track conditions and the physical fitness of the participants.

Day 1: (L/D)
Depart Kota Kinabalu by motor vehicle for Paginatan, a major POW staging camp. After a native-style lunch, proceed to Nabutan to follow the jungle trail to Nelapak, where you will be transferred to Sabah Tea Estate by vehicle for an overnight stay, in a traditional-style longhouse, and dinner. Two hours' duration, easy to moderate grade.

Day 2: (FB/L/D)
After breakfast and inspection of the tea factory, walk to Muruk village, then drive to Marakau Hill, with spectacular views of Mt Kinabalu, for jungle trek to Ranau Plain. Packed lunch. Transfer by vehicle to Ranau POW camp site, then visit Poring Hot Springs for a swim, relaxation or possibly a jungle canopy walk. Late afternoon transfer to Perkasa Hotel at Kundusang (Mt Kinabalu) for overnight stay and dinner. Three-four hours' duration, easy to moderate grade, with some uphill sections.

Day 3: (FB)
After breakfast visit the magnificently restored Kundasang War Memorial, then Kinabalu National Park. After lunch, return to Kota Kinabalu by vehicle .

What to bring:

Comfortable walking shoes/boots, spare pair of light sneakers for river crossing,  loose and comfortable clothing, personal items, small day pack for trekking, shady hat, waterproof jacket, sun screen, insect repellent & camera. Bottled water for drinking is provided.

OPTIONS:

For groups wishing to incorporate the trek into their own itineraries, or individuals wishing to join a scheduled tour for the trek only, the price of the 8-day trek tour, excluding accommodation in Kota Kinabalu, airport transfers and day trip to Labuan, is $1500 AUD (based on a tour of at least 16 persons).
